If you build it, they would come
This misquoted line is spoken by Ray Kinsella, played by Kevin Costner, in the film Field of Dreams, directed by Phil Alden Robinson (1989).
Within the realm of leadership endeavors, this principle readily manifests itself as the correlation between one's diligent endeavors, the unwavering conviction in the triumphant outcome of a given undertaking, and the heightened probability of its accomplishment.
While true that probability might improve, one must consider the receiving end. Who are they, and why should they come? Aka. What is in it for them? - VALUE.
Value can be divided into two types: must-have and nice-to-have. Must-haves are essential, while nice-to-haves add extra benefits; think painkillers vs. vitamins. In today’s economy, people discard nice-to-haves and focus on the must-haves. This is where companies are rising to the top, and others lose momentum.
Last week's conferences- Data and AI Summit by Databricks and Snowflake Summit, provided good insights into companies that would endeavor the current fire taking in the forest and those that won’t. Data practitioners know what their true pain is, and they are extremely focused on results.
